25 YEARS, 15 CAMERAS, AND HUNDREDS OF VIDEOS LATER...

Meet Mike McCaleb,
Owner of Michael Scot Films

For me, weddings are so much more than just visually stunning events or grand celebrations—they’re the very start of a family’s legacy. Every single laugh, every happy tear, every quiet glance exchanged between loved ones carries a weight that’s hard to describe until you see it preserved on film. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that the moments I capture aren’t just fleeting—they can become treasured memories that grow in value with every passing year, sometimes in ways no one could have anticipated on the wedding day itself.

One story that has stayed with me is of a bride who reached out several years after her wedding. She wanted to thank me for capturing her father’s toast during the reception. Tragically, he had passed away not long after that special day. For her, having that footage—being able to hear his voice again, to see the pride and love on his face—became one of her most cherished possessions. It was a moment she never imagined she’d need to revisit, but it turned out to be a priceless gift she was deeply grateful to have. Stories like this remind me every day why I do what I do. It’s about so much more than just making a beautiful film; it’s about preserving the moments that matter most, the ones that can bring comfort and joy for years to come.

This is why I do what I do.

People often ask me how I found my way into wedding videography. My journey actually began in a completely different world: filming comedians at The Improv in Brea, California. I helped them create demo reels to showcase their talent and launch their careers. Then, a friend asked if I’d help film a wedding. That’s when my documentary film background from college kicked in, and I realized how much I loved capturing real, unscripted moments. From that first wedding, I was hooked. Now, this is my life—helping others remember their lives, one beautiful story at a time.
